In time, a Second and a Third African Church were formed, also led by black pastors. According to Smith-Pollard, however, black women have even less incentive than white women to allege sexual misconduct against their pastors and other men within the church. Not only do they fear that they won’t be believed, but most are loath to bring any kind of sexual misconduct complaint against men who serve as spiritual leaders. Traditionally, women have formed the backbone of the black church despite the treatment they received therein. Women have by far outnumbered men when it comes to such things as the amount of time or money donated. She put me in a different category and made me feel like a child. Indeed, young Black adults are less likely to attend religious services at all and they also are somewhat more likely to attend religious services at White or other race congregations. Protestants are the group most likely to attend a Black congregation. About half of all Black Protestants – and roughly two-thirds of those who attend religious services – say their congregation has mostly Black attendees and religious leaders. By contrast, only 8% of Black Protestants say they attend religious services at a congregation where leadership and members are mostly White or some other race. That said, younger Black adults are much less engaged in Black churches than are older generations. In the end when they are in poor health from all of the stress and ruined financially, he’s off and running because his wife would not “submit” and/or “let him be a man”. So, let me give four brief pointers to the way the Bible, I believe, supports the marriage of believers in Christ Jesus regardless of race. Openly or in the closet gay men, neither of which is interested in marrying. Some gay men are wrestling with severe guilt and confusion about their desires, which they hope to pray away. Others are openly gay and attend church seeking acceptance from a community which turns its nose up at homosexuality; they are also seeking forgiveness for their sins.
Then it hit me – I was a single woman talking to a married man. The room was filled with people, and my question was about the training he presented, but he may have seen me as someone with ulterior motives. I dreaded Sunday; it was my least favorite day of the week. I went to church, but not Bible study because there wasn’t a class for me. I sat on the pew alone watching married couples in front of me holding hands.
After a training session on serving in the children’s ministry, I went up to the male speaker to ask a question about what he was teaching us. He was fidgety and short with his answers – obviously uncomfortable. After that awkward interaction, I thought more about it, wondering why he acted that way.

Often there’s not enough singles to make a “singles group,” but there doesn’t have to be a group just for singles. Single people want to be included with people their own age regardless of their season in life. It’s a misconception that single people do not want to interact with family life. And on the other side, children especially often benefit from having other adults in their lives. Nearly half of Black Protestants who attend Black churches say they heard a sermon about race relations or racial inequality (47%) in the 12 months prior to the survey. An identical share say they heard sermons about voting, protesting or other forms of political engagement.
